How to Make a Large Piece of Wall Art for your Garden

A very simple idea to transform a garden wall, fence or bland corner of your garden.

All you need is an outdoor rug, the example I have used here is from 'George Home' at a cost of £40, they also had many other choices. This is an indoor/outdoor rug and can be brushed down if it gets dirty and easily taken indoors in the winter months.

I have attached it to the wall very simply using a plank of wood that I have painted and attached fixings. Exact steps are as follows :

1) Choose your rug and find a plank of wood that will fit the width of the rug ( obviously this can be cut to size )

2) Paint the piece of wood using an outdoor paint to give it some protection against the elements. I have used a black outdoor paint and given it two coats.

3) Attach fixings to the back of the wood so that you can fix to your wall or drill holes through the wood and use string/rope

4) Next you need to attach the top of your rug to the wood. I used indoor/outdoor Gorilla glue for this. I glued all along the back hem of the rug and stuck down so that approx half of the width of wood was left on display at the top. This should be left overnight or for 24 hours to cure.

5) Next I added some decorative tacks along the hem as added support. I purchased these very cheaply from Temu, however any tacks/nails would work here. I placed at approx 20cm intervals.

6) Finally, you are ready to hang your piece of art ! Find the perfect spot in the garden and enjoy your transformation.
